This work reviews the concept of dealing with the emerging field of resilient robots and proposes ideas for designing robotic solutions. The paper explores the concept of resilient robots by distinguishing resilience from other related concepts. It summarizes the strategies that robots can use to maintain functionality and operation mode in case of problems or challenges during the inspection of critical infrastructures. By highlighting the key challenges in physical architecture modules, connection systems and control systems, this paper presents potential solutions to enhance the development of more resilient robots that lead to LEAN automation. Examples of resilient robots are presented and discussed. The conclusion reports future directions for the field.
