The paper presents a historical evolution of the design of the LARM hand finger in terms of aesthetics and protective cover using shape design considerations and procedures. The devel-opment of the mechanical design of the fingers is outlined up to reaching a specific attention to the design of the envelope of artificial fingers with aesthetic and functional requirements, lead-ing to an investigated and proposed solution also in the form of a shape patent. The historical development of this approach is based on a multidisciplinary collaboration integrating the de-sign of the mechanisms and functionality of the grasp mechanics with aspects of shape design and graphics design to reach an anthropological aesthetic solution that has elaborated with a gradual development.
