Marcus Vitruvius Pollio was Roman architect/engineer, who in his treatise “De Architectura” in I B.C. described design and operation of machines for civil engineering in details. The treatise is a full reference from Antiquity that once rediscovered during Renaissance it was studied and reprinted both as historical background and technical inspiration. In this chapter the focus is addressed on machine developments.

Abstract

Marcus Vitruvius Pollio was Roman architect/engineer, who in his treatise “De Architectura” in I B.C. described design and operation of machines for civil engineering in details.
