The idea of an incubator as a physical and location place for business, dates back to the North American experience of the 1950s. In Italy the idea of business incubators arrived later, in 1984, and it is different as to targets and structural forms: in fact from a physical aggregation place they became an instrument for the birth, development and more or less fruitful advice of new businesses, old businesses and territory developments. The main objective of an incubator is to generate successful firms that once they have gained autonomy and financial solidity are able to leave the support program. This paper analyses the incubation activity in Italy, considering the different existing types of incubators.

Abstract
The idea of an incubator as a physical and location place for business, dates back to the North American experience of the 1950s. In Italy the idea of business incubators arrived later, in 1984, and it is different as to targets and structural forms: in fact from a physical aggregation place they became an instrument for the birth, development and more or less fruitful advice of new businesses, old businesses and territory developments. The main objective of an incubator is to generate successful firms that once they have gained autonomy and financial solidity are able to leave the support program. This paper analyses the incubation activity in Italy, considering the different existing types of incubators.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
