This essay traces the literary work of Dante Troisi (1920-1989), his tormented existential calvary and his problematic relations with the Catholic culture and the Communist ideology. Born in Tufo (the mythical Vallea in many of his aphorisms and tales), the writer was a judge by profession in the post-war Cassino, and lived with the anxiety and the disquiet of a “clandestine” the contradictions of his contemporary Italian society. The topic of justice was central in all his reflections on the tragedy of life.
