The purpose of this research is to analyze the current state of search engines. The search engine concept has several different definitions, so in the first place we tried to identify an appropriate definition of search engine. Secondly, their evolution was analyzed, examining the first search engines and therefore the current search engines. Finally, Google, the main search engine used in the world, was analyzed.
