The thesis “Fanfani di nuovo alla guida della diplomazia. Aspetti della politica estera italiana 1965-1968” focuses the attention on some aspects of Italy’s foreign policy between 1965 and 1968. In that period Italian diplomacy was led by Amintore Fanfani, a key figure of Christian Democratic Party that, after different years of marginalization, was recalled to politics in the second and third government of center-left. Fanfani aimed to dynamise the role of Italy by promoting “the way of Italian mediation” in the world and by exploiting his office as President of the UN General Assembly in 1965-1966. Fanfani was active, particularly, in two international fields: the Vietnam War and the conflict in the Middle East but he represented, furthermore, a significant sensibility towards three others international issues such as the entrance of PRC at the UN, the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and the process of European integration. From the point of view of internal matter, Fanfani was occupied in the quarrel between Italy and Austria about South-Tyrol: it constituted the only case in which the Italian minister abandoned the method of conciliation to assume an attitude of firmness. In collaboration with the Prime Minister, Aldo Moro, Fanfani was the representative of a new type of foreign policy, more enterprising and proactive but, however, always bound to its European and Western identity. In view of these results, the aim of the work is to demonstrate the relevance of Fanfanian action and rehabilitate a subject understated by historiography.

Abstract
In view of these results, the aim of the work is to demonstrate the relevance of Fanfanian action and rehabilitate a subject understated by historiography.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
