The text tries to sketch out the different citizenship’s patterns in contemporary Italy: so it is mainly focused on the pattern of the revolutionary period between 1796 and 1799; on the civil codes of Italian states; on the civil code of 1865, which shows elements of continuity as well of fracture with earlier civil codes’ norms, also with regard to the equalization of foreigners and citizens under the private law aspect; on the reform of 1912, which shows the influence of migration’s movements; on liberal colonialism; on fascist Italy; on the Republican age, with special regard to the reform of 1992, which is more restrictive than that of 1912, and to the pertaining debate in Parliament.
