Five inscriptions from the urban monumentum familiae Statiliorum are proposed and carefully considered. They contain a brief praise of the deceased. These texts supply first-hand evidence of how and what was praised in a freedman/-woman or a slave by his/her relatives or fellows in the familia. And sometimes we can also compare such expressions of praise with those, it is possible to find in literary sources reporting either lower class chat (e.g. Petronius' Cena) or upper class manners
