Latin epigraphy from urban columbaria replaces the higher literature with several anonymous but valuable poems for lower class people collectively buried there. Two of such fair poems from the monumentum familiae Statiliorum (I1 cent. AD), both elegiac and flawless, are here selected and carefully commented upon: CE 1001 dedicated by a slave to a fellow slave; CE 1030 for an unnamed wife, who praises herself for having died in the arms (and tears) of her deeply loving man. Many thoughts, images or expressions are noticed and surveyed in verbal and conceptual comparison with literary and/or epigraphic texts.
