395AbstractThe state of the art about Roman Corsica is relatively poor when compared to the archaeological knowledge we have of the island for other phases, even if the recent publication of the archaeological map in the series of the Carte Archéologique de la Gaule offers a ‘fish-eye’ perspective. For the Late Republican period, most information derives from the two main towns on the eastern coast, Aleria and Mariana, but more extensive research is needed to define the road network, the settlement patterns, the resource exploitation system, etc. Nevertheless, a critical review of all available data allows us to propose some interesting remarks about the nature of the Romanisation process, in the light of the most recent theoretical approaches to the phenomena connected with cultural change. In this way, we can offer some insights into crucial aspects of Roman colonization during the Civil Wars and of the fundamental role played by Augustus.
