Geografia delle complessità urbane

La città è un fenomeno complesso e la complessità è insita nella sua storia, nelle sue funzioni, nel suo significato economico e sociale, nella sua composizione architettonica, nel suo essere inserita in un contesto territoriale più ampio e altrettanto complesso, nell’essere il centro di interessi di una comunità, nell’essere essa stessa una comunità. La città e l’uomo sembrano essere una cosa sola: l’uomo si identifica con la città e la città risponde alle esigenze dell’uomo e al suo modo di vivere. Si può dire che la città è, insieme al paesaggio e, in alcuni casi, più del paesaggio, l’elemento territoriale che più rispecchia il genere di vita: anzi, è il luogo in cui il genere di vita si plasma e in cui avviene il confronto e l’incontro tra gli individui, che instaurano rapporti di lavoro, di vicinato, di amicizia o di gestione della città stessa. The city and the man seem to be only one thing: the man is identified with the city and the city responds to the needs of man and his way of living. It can be said that the city is both the landscape and, in some cases, most of the landscape, the territorial element that most closely reflects the way of life: in fact, is the place where the way of life takes shape and the occurrence comparison and the encounter between individuals, which form working relationships, neighborhood, friendship or management of the city itself.
