Indoor air quality (IAQ) is a critical concern due to the significant amount of time people spend indoors, the presence of indoor sources of pollutants, and the reduced ventilation of the buildings. In particular, submicrometric particles represent a main pollutant affecting the IAQ as they are predominantly emitted through indoor combustion activities. This chapter, making a journey through the authors’ research, examines the different steps for a complete characterization of submicrometric particles in indoor environments, that is, from the emission of sources to the health outcomes. Indeed, we show experimental characterizations of submicrometric particle emission of different indoor sources and of the exposure in different indoor microenvironments as well as estimates of the corresponding dose and risk received by the exposed population during their life. Finally, a feedback strategy to mitigate the exposure in such indoor environments is also reported.
