Hyldo nel Heliand

Nella tradizione poetica in inglese antico la Genesi B è il testo in cui risultano più numerose le occorrenze del sostantivo hyldo: parola chiave all’interno del campo semantico relativo all’autorità e all’obbedienza, il vocabolo indica il favore del signore sia in senso laico che spirituale. Il contributo intende offrire una panoramica delle occorrenze del sostantivo nel poema rilevandone il ruolo cruciale svolto nella narrazione della caduta degli angeli ribelli e del peccato originale, senza trascurare altre importanti attestazioni nella restante tradizione poetica insulare che possano aiutare a meglio delinearne le connotazioni, la tipologia e le peculiarità di impiego. In the Old English poetic tradition Genesis B is the text with the most numerous occurrences of the noun hyldo, a key word within the semantic field relating to authority and obedience, indicating the favour of the lord in both a secular and a spiritual sense. This essay aims at an overview of the occurrences of the noun in the Old English poem, where it plays a crucial role in the narration of the fall of the rebel angels and of the original sin; significant occurrences of the noun in other texts belonging to the insular poetic tradition are also considered in as far as they contribute to define more precisely its meaning and the peculiarities of its use.
