A sample of 2378 Italian preadolescents (Mage= 12.02 years, SD= 0.82) was recruited to investigate this issue. The results showed that using filters/apps to alter physical appearance and image-mediated interactions with peers and celebrities/influencers were negatively associated with body satisfaction.

Abstract

The increasing use of social media among preadolescents has been found to impact body satisfaction and lead to the development of dualism between real and virtual identities.
