Road assets management is one of the most demanding challenges for public and private road managers. As a matter of fact, while, on one side, conventional ageing of the infrastructures, increasing traffic flows, and natural catastrophic events show the fragility of transportation network, on the other one, current limited budgets and growing public demands and expectations, especially in the field of road safety, represent new challenges for worldwide transportation managers.
