Following a review of existing prediction models where an in-depth critical analysis has been performed, an extensive data collection and analysis has been carried out. Field and laboratory data relating to more than 300 bituminous mixture types have been collected and examined. Existing predictions models have been conveniently re-calibrated and new prediction models have been proposed. The new general prediction models appear to provide fairly satisfactory results if they are compared with those provided by the existing recalibrated models, whereas specific mixture-type prediction models still show a poor agreement with experimental data. Further analysis and experimental investigations are necessary as far as traffic post-compaction issues affecting macrotexture evolution are concerned.
