The digitization of the manufacturing process is creating a new industrial revolution, the so-called "Industry 4.0" or "smart manufacturing". The research proposes a "pilot" study concerning the digitization of a logistic process in an Italian company that operates in railway sector. The research does not focus on technical components of digitization, as literature on this field is complete. It describes the main methodological steps implemented for the optimization of the warehouse management. Technological, Organizational and human factors that influence the process digitization have been analyzed. The main results were analyzed through Flexsim 2017® software. © 2017 Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME).
