Seismic risk maps are a useful tool. Generally in those studies urban areas, where most of the human activi-ties are concentrated, represent a critical issue. Main concerns are about the existing building stock, mostly composed by structures not compliant with modern seismic design criteria. The production of a seismic risk map is a complex task that involves the combination of data coming from different field of expertise, since the expected loss due to an earthquake is obtained integrating together the seismic hazard, that concerns the likelihood of measuring at site some intensities of shaking during an earthquake, the structural vulnerability, that represents the building susceptibility to damage and the exposure that estimates the value of the assets exposed to risk. The aim of the study is to show how the already available information can be combined to-gether. The aim is to obtain a reliable representation of the seismic risk at urban scale to be used when plan-ning the mitigation measures to be undertaken by individuals or a community in order to improve the level of preparedness in case of an earthquake.
