In 2012 (according to the report AITEC - Italian Association of Technical Economic Cement) the overall demand for cement in the EU 27 was about 154 million tons. In Italy, the cement production was 26.2 million tonnes. The manufacture of these building materials required million tons of aggregates and additives a with a consequent very high environmental impact. Geopolymer concrete is seen as a potential alternative to standard concrete, and an opportunity to convert a variety of waste streams into useful by-products. In this study we carry out an environmental evaluation of geopolymer concrete production using the Life Cycle Assessment methodology. The aim of the present work is to propose an integrated approach useful to analyze both economic and social/environmental development of geopolymer concrete production in order to identify and quantify energy and materials used as well as releases to the environment and their potential impacts throughout the whole life cycle.

Abstract
The aim of the present work is to propose an integrated approach useful to analyze both economic and social/environmental development of geopolymer concrete production in order to identify and quantify energy and materials used as well as releases to the environment and their potential impacts throughout the whole life cycle.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
