The growing environmental awareness in the Italian paper mill industry is testified by the adoption of environmental management systems. This study analyses the example of the Cartiere Burgo S.p.A that has adhered to the “Eco Management" project and has realised an Environmental Management System in compliance with ISO 14001. In line with the position the Italian paper industry has undertaken towards environmental protection. Cartiere Burgo S.p.A. has modified its environmental relationship, using those instruments that answer the latter‘s necessities, aware of the fact that company competitiveness shall be measured against it.
