In this paper, we study how a crude oil price variations aects U.S. Dollar exchange rate or viceversa, taking into account the U.S. Dollar exchange rate "Trade Weighted U.S. Dollar Index: Major Currencies" and the WTI (West Texas Intermediate) crude oil real prices. We found a conrmation of general results of actual literature: the presence of a causality in both directions (a rise in the crude oil price implies U.S. Dollar appreciation and the opposite). We also show that there is a negative correlation between the two variables using the nancial approach arguments.

Abstract

In this paper, we study how a crude oil price variations aects U.S. Dollar exchange rate or viceversa, taking into account the U.S. Dollar exchange rate "Trade Weighted U.S. Dollar Index: Major Currencies" and the WTI (West Texas Intermediate) crude oil real prices. We found a conrmation of general results of actual literature: the presence of a causality in both directions (a rise in the crude oil price implies U.S. Dollar appreciation and the opposite). We also show that there is a negative correlation between the two variables using the nancial approach arguments.
