Statistical depth functions are aimed at providing a ranking of the data in order of centrality. The concept of depth can also be extended to directional data, according to a proper notion of center. This work first reviews the few notions of statistical depth functions defined for directional data within the literature. Then, a new class of distance-based depth functions for directional data is introduced.
