A-priori estimate of the vertical displacements of foundations is particularly important for selecting the preliminary activities able to prevent damages to buildings or infra-structures caused by nearby construction sites. In this paper we present the results of a study concerning the evaluation of the foundation displacements of some buildings close to an urban area where deep excavations have been carried out for constructing a multi-floor parking. It is shown in particular how the displacements measured from high precision digital leveling can be used for calibrating the parameters of a FEM model of the area interested by the excavation. The model is adequately simplified to be used with sufficient reliability in common technical applications.
