The aim of this article is to analyse the features of paratextual elements of Old English translations during the age of Alfred the Great with special reference to prologues. Considering translation as a process of rewriting a source text in order to adapt it to a different context of reception, this article highlights the relevance of the prefatory sections in the process of transmission of the translated text.
