The increasing penetration of electric vehicles (EVs) requires the large-scale integration of charging stations into existing distribution networks, raising concerns about grid adequacy and operational limits. EV charging stations can cause voltage deviations, thermal overloading, and power quality issues, making the assessment of EV hosting capacity (HC) essential. HC is the maximum EV charging load a network can accommodate without violating technical constraints. Conventional methods, often based on iterative or recursive load-flow analyses, may be computationally demanding and scenario-dependent, and may not explicitly account for interactions between active and reactive power limits. This paper proposes the adoption of the electrical power system Capability Chart as a systematic tool for assessing EV hosting capacity. By defining the admissible operating region on the active–reactive power plane, the method directly quantifies the additional EV load that can be integrated while satisfying all operational constraints, providing a comprehensive, physically grounded assessment framework.
