This study is part of an interdisciplinary PRIN research project and explores the intersection between penal execution, parenting, and the psycho-physical and relational health of motherchild units in various custodial settings (Nursery Section, ICAM, Protected Family Houses, and Child_Parent Communities). The empirical investigation, based on semi-structured interviews with 53 key informants, highlights how motherhood is institutionally constrained and symbolically delegitimized within prison, generating feelings of powerlessness and anxious attachment. Conversely, extra-mural custodial settings where incarcerated mothers can serve their sentence activate processes of subjectivation, empowerment, and reconfiguration of the maternal role, contributing to the reshaping of care practices and educational planning in a relational and inclusive perspective.

Abstract
This study is part of an interdisciplinary PRIN research project and explores the intersection between penal execution, parenting, and the psycho-physical and relational health of motherchild units in various custodial settings (Nursery Section, ICAM, Protected Family Houses, and Child_Parent Communities). The empirical investigation, based on semi-structured interviews with 53 key informants, highlights how motherhood is institutionally constrained and symbolically delegitimized within prison, generating feelings of powerlessness and anxious attachment. Conversely, extra-mural custodial settings where incarcerated mothers can serve their sentence activate processes of subjectivation, empowerment, and reconfiguration of the maternal role, contributing to the reshaping of care practices and educational planning in a relational and inclusive perspective.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
