In this study we explore the efficacy of utilizing satellite images to measure the wet and active width of a braided river. Considering the Trionto River, Italy, as case-study, Syn thetic Aperture Radar satellite images are analysed and used to estimate wet and active width for the 2016 hydrologic year. By comparing images captured over a year, we identify areas that experi enced changes in elevation. These changes are considered representative of sediment transport and thus allow the distinction between of mobile (active) and immobile parts of the braidplain.

Abstract
In this study we explore the efficacy of utilizing satellite images to measure the wet and active width of a braided river. Considering the Trionto River, Italy, as case-study, Syn thetic Aperture Radar satellite images are analysed and used to estimate wet and active width for the 2016 hydrologic year. By comparing images captured over a year, we identify areas that experi enced changes in elevation. These changes are considered representative of sediment transport and thus allow the distinction between of mobile (active) and immobile parts of the braidplain.File in questo prodotto:
