Abstract

tone machining technologies have existed for a long time, but they have still to be optimized and compared to innovative cutting processes. The present work studies stone production, starting from slabs, by means of two alternative technologies: diamond milling and abrasive waterjet (A.W.J.). An experimental study on the influence of some process variables, such as water pressure, abrasive mass flow rate and feed rate, on cutting quality has been carried out by means of statistical tools. The experimental material was Coreno Perlato Royal marble. Moreover some economical aspects have been investigated. This study represents only the first step towards the optimization of stone machining.
