The article investigates the accessory texts, or paratexts - prologues, chapter lists (capitula) and titles (tituli) - that accompany the Octateuch in the Bibles in Beneventan script kept in Montecassino Abbey. In particular, a specific methodology is proposed for the study of chapter lists, whose textual, formal and functional aspects are holistically considered. The analysis, which is preliminary to a larger and systematic study on the tabulae capitulorum in Beneventan Octateuch, concentrates on the capitula to the book of Genesis. A critical edition is provided in the Appendix, which allowed to identify some peculiar traits of the capitulatio in the Beneventan-Cassinese area, compared to the tradition of the A series of the chapters published in 1914 by Donatien De Bruyne.

Abstract
The article investigates the accessory texts, or paratexts - prologues, chapter lists (capitula) and titles (tituli) - that accompany the Octateuch in the Bibles in Beneventan script kept in Montecassino Abbey. In particular, a specific methodology is proposed for the study of chapter lists, whose textual, formal and functional aspects are holistically considered. The analysis, which is preliminary to a larger and systematic study on the tabulae capitulorum in Beneventan Octateuch, concentrates on the capitula to the book of Genesis. A critical edition is provided in the Appendix, which allowed to identify some peculiar traits of the capitulatio in the Beneventan-Cassinese area, compared to the tradition of the A series of the chapters published in 1914 by Donatien De Bruyne.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
