If an electrical drive is considered, it is important to extend the concept of power quality to the load side too. From this point of view, the alternating component of the output tourque is a crucial problem for variable speed electrical drives. The paper presentes a PWM tecnique that allows the tourque ripple of inverter fed induction motors to be minimised. The tourque ripple is expressed as function of the notches introduced in the output voltage waveform of a VSI and it is minimised by finding out the optimum modulation pattern. This tecnique is compered with the typical sine-triangle PWM one on the basis of the same number of commutations per period. The numerical results shows that a significant tourque ripple reduction can be achieved if the dc bus voltage is considered in the set of the indipendent variables.
