Since the Jubilee of 2000, the via Francigena has been heavily exploited by touristic interests to the detriment of scientific research. Nonetheless, on the basis of an archaeo-topographical study carried out by both Elisabetta De Minicis and the author on a stretch of the via Francigena in Lazio, we can describe how a pilgrimage itinerary can trigger identitarian processes. Here we will analyse some of the phenomena which characterize the genesis of an “identitarian itinerary”.

Abstract

Since the Jubilee of 2000, the via Francigena has been heavily exploited by touristic interests to the detriment of scientific research. Nonetheless, on the basis of an archaeo-topographical study carried out by both Elisabetta De Minicis and the author on a stretch of the via Francigena in Lazio, we can describe how a pilgrimage itinerary can trigger identitarian processes. Here we will analyse some of the phenomena which characterize the genesis of an “identitarian itinerary”.
