In these last years, Ammaia, a mid-size deserted Roman town in ancient Lusitania, has been the focus of a wide variety of archaeological research efforts, which have been planned in the framework of several national and international projects and collaborations, among which the integration into the RITECA network, via a close collaboration between the Centro Interdisciplinar de Historia, Culturas e Sociedade of the University of Évora and the Instituto de Arquelogia de Mérida. The archaeological agenda has been centred on a “total” approach, implying an integrated survey, stratigraphical excavations, material studies, archaeometric analyses and GIS processing. It has also included the elaboration of modelling, 3D reconstructions and other methods for visualisation and the elaboration of strategies for valorisation and management of this particular category of archaeological sites. Taking into account the extraordinary results mainly achieved by means of non-destructive approaches, Ammaia has been chosen as case-study to develop a site management plan that would ensure the scientific management and preservation of the site.
