Abstract

Digital representation is increasingly combined with analytical tools modelling the environmental factors. In this paper, the same approach is applied on existing buildings of historical and cultural value to investigate the reasons for their degradation and to plan their protection and restoration in a more rational way: 3D geometrical modelling is linked to computational tools quantifying solar irradiation and wind exposure. The reported experience proves the effectiveness of these studies for the survey of damage and for the planning of remediation both at the urban and architectural scale.
