The paper analyses the dynamics that characterized the urban transformation of the city of Cassino during its reconstruction stage. The city, which was destroyed by the events of the World War II, is having to deal with and confront contrasting opinions among; the population, the city administration and the designers, regarding the direction to follow for the new city plan, during the period of redevelopment known as the "Reconstruction Plan". The study aims to investigate how the city manages to preserve and change its urban identity, through significant stability and multiple transformations of the urban fabric. The design of the city thus assumes a fundamental role in the new city layout which develops in successive and different proposals of the "Reconstruction Plan", the drafting of which was undertaken by, among others, Giuseppe Nicolosi and Concezio Petrucci. By analyzing the process of development and implementation of the Reconstruction Plan and the complex relationship between architecture and urban form, come to the surface the relationships and spatial rules that have characterized the evolution of the rebuilt city.
