In recent years, interest in intangibles is highly popular, especially in view of the competitive advantage brought by certain intangible assets to the business. The present work aims to investigate the characteristics of the innovation process in companies, with particular reference to issues related to the collection and communication of the economic value of the intangible assets. The study of the most popular methods used to estimate the economic value of intangible assets is accompanied by examples of application designed to bring out the strengths and weaknesses found in the same. This analysis is related to the analysis of the most popular instruments of securitization of intellectual property, focusing on the most relevant issues raised as a result of their use. In this sense we have proposed practical solutions aimed at making the tools of IP finance more accessible to companies.
