GALILEO is a European satellite radio navigation and positioning programme. Gradual actions have been programmed to better the Galileo system, in order to manage and coordinate means of transport within the member states of EU, with the aim to optimize and integrate 3 operative fields (land, sea and air) which are reputed essential in European and extra-European transport. Using infrastructures designed for Galileo, applicative projects have been outlined thanks also to recent technologies that are now indispensable in the rational management of traffic: an integrated navigation and control system of air traffic (C.N.S./ A.T.M - Communications, Navigation and Surveillance/Air Traffic Management); a management system of sea traffic with a difficult coordination in insular areas, closed seas and in the straits.; a rail traffic management system for transport of goods and people; a satellite positioning system in order to manage operative traffic on road, that invests on economy and on alternative choices for goods transport. In particular, this paper analyses the more recent applications in the field of transport, with specific reference to subsectors: road transport, sea transport, air transport, dangerous goods transport.
