It is well known that MEMS- (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) based accelerometer sensors can communicate in a wireless mode both with a processing unit and with a data transmission system; moreover they can operate as inclinometers. Preliminary experiments in this direction have been conducted and presented in recent years. In particular, if the sensors are fixed to a rigid element, they allow one to measure and monitor the inclination of the same element since the variation in time of the inclination is representative of the kinematics of the point at which the element and the sensor are bound. This application is significant in the geomatic low-cost monitoring techniques, particularly in determining slope movements during landslides, at least in the superficial part of the slope. The purpose of this paper is to present the results of a sensitivity test of triaxial accelerometer sensors through the SMAMID measurement system. During such tests some MEMS-based sensors were firmly fixed to a theodolite in which angular displacements with high precision could be imposed. The measure of the angles through triaxial accelerometers has been carried out byevaluating the variations of the gravity component on three axes, since the SMAMID system can also measure static accelerations. Starting from an initial condition, variations of the zenith angle have been imposed with step of 1 gon, recording simultaneously the three accelerations by means of three MEMS sensors. Therefore, purpose of the test was to ascertain which level of accuracy of inclinations could be derived from accelerometer sensors by taking as reference values those imposed with the theodolite. The results are presented and discussed.
