The occupational behaviour of Italian labour force was analysed comparing autochthon and immigrants choices moving from the “Dual labour Market Theory”. The hypothesis that natives and non natives show the same expectations and labour choices and that the behavior of immigrants does not change on the basis of the derivation country, were tested. The first hypothesis was confirmed suggesting also to disaggregate the labour market in intellectual, specialized and manual jobs. The usefulness of the mixed models and the differences between immigrated with and without Italian citizenship were also noticed.

Abstract

The occupational behaviour of Italian labour force was analysed comparing autochthon and immigrants choices moving from the “Dual labour Market Theory”. The hypothesis that natives and non natives show the same expectations and labour choices and that the behavior of immigrants does not change on the basis of the derivation country, were tested. The first hypothesis was confirmed suggesting also to disaggregate the labour market in intellectual, specialized and manual jobs. The usefulness of the mixed models and the differences between immigrated with and without Italian citizenship were also noticed.
